I find it quite entertaining to browse through wine shops, looking at different labels and what winemakers and marketing people will do to sell wine. Yes, I know, I need to get a life. Anyway, they use different shaped bottles, brightly coloured labels, the Big Five from Africa or any other critter. And then, my personal favourite: bling. They will slap on a bronze medal from a wine show in Uzbekistan to convince you that their wine really is the best; that you absolutely have to buy it. But do medals on a bottle affect one’s wine-buying decisions? |
